How the score works
Seven simple checks, weighted to 100. The thresholds are SellSip house rules, informed by Jill Konrath's SNAP Selling advice to keep outreach short and focused on one ask, and by the general guidance that plain, easy-to-read writing works best on a phone.
| Check | Weight | Full marks when |
|---|---|---|
| Length | 15 | 25 to 80 words |
| Reading level | 15 | Flesch-Kincaid grade 6 or below |
| You / I ratio | 15 | At least twice as many "you" words as "I/we" words |
| One clear ask | 20 | Exactly one question or request |
| Subject line | 10 | Up to 7 words and 50 characters; no "!", caps, spam words or fake "Re:" |
| Spam words | 10 | No hype words such as "free", "guaranteed", "act now" |
| Personalisation | 15 | Uses their name and company, plus one specific detail; no unfilled merge tags |
The total maps to the Brew Strength scale as an inbox-readiness grade. It cannot predict replies: your offer, timing and list matter more than any formula. Before sending, read how many follow-ups to send and Sara Blakely's pitch on making the ask small.
